Roasted Red Bell Peppers 101

While they’ve become common ingredients in the cuisines of the Mediterranean, sweet and hot peppers are native to the Americas, having been brought to Italy and Spain by Christopher Columbus upon his return from the new world. With their sweet, earthy flavor and vibrant colors, roasted bell peppers add a beautiful and sophisticated flair to pasta dishes, pizzas, salads, sauces and appetizers.

Red bell peppers are simply green bell peppers that have been left on the vine to continue to ripen. Over the years Mezzetta has worked in close partnership with our seed company and local family farms in Northern California to develop meaty bell peppers with a high natural sugar content.

All of our bell peppers come from local farms and are roasted and packed within twenty-four hours of harvest. Packed in water with sea salt for preserving, they have tender juicy flesh, mild character and a light smoky flavor.
